Third Entry: SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being

"The first wealth is health" - Ralph Waldo Emerson. Have you ever heard of that quote? Just by looking, reading, and listening to that saying, it automatically gives an impactful meaning, right? That is because it is true though. Without good proper health, we humans will not be capable of doing anything, not even going through our daily lives.

In this day and age, it is ever so common that we are exposed to the sudden news of the discovery of new diseases.  The closest example to give is undoubtedly, covid-19. It was the largest in the history of a pandemic. New variants keep on existing without us getting the solution or vaccine of the previous versions created yet.

Due to this, the death rate in our country has been affected. It has led to countless deaths which is absolutely heartbreaking.

"In Malaysia, from 3 January 2020 to 6:03am CEST, 24 May 2023, there have been 5,094,448 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 37,070 deaths" reported to WHO.

I still remember to this date, what the situation was like when the victims of covid deaths could not even be properly buried in the usual way due to its highly contagious rate.

For this entry, we are not going to only talk about how dangerous covid is. We will look deeper into how devastating it is should we not take our health and well-being seriously. Rationally speaking, if it is not important, this would not have been included in the Sustainable Development Goals, being in the top 3 at that.

SDG 3's official slogan is "To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages".

As for my personal experience, my family members, mainly my little siblings are often admitted. If we were going to talk about covid, it took us a rigorous level of caution to truly protect ourselves from getting infected during the pandemic. We even had to go the extra mile of frequent bathing with Dettol to ensure we were being absolutely hygienic and protected. Even so, my mom got infected and we all had to quarantine ourselves in the house while she was being isolated in her room.

In addition, just recently, my little sister got admitted twice. The first one was because she was infected with the Influenza B virus and not long after, around about 2 months or so, she got once again admitted just this time around, it was Influenza A. It is understandable that kids her age are so easily exposed to viruses especially being in school, nonetheless, the frequency of her getting sick is worrisome to us.

With that being said, I truly stand by the third SDG- Good Health and Well-being for all ages, all over the world.

In conclusion, it is crucial that we take measures for better healthcare as well as well-being. Our health should always be the first priority no matter what. In all fairness, it is not hard to take proper care and stay healthy. We could start as small as taking a nutritious meal every day, according to what is recommended as our portion; which is the "quarter-quarter-half" rule. This is a guide to a balanced meal, which is a diet that includes all three of the food major categories: proteins, carbohydrates and vegetables. This method works by dividing our plates into a quarter of protein, a quarter of carbs and half veggies. It is best to practice this for every intake of our meal. Not to forget, we shall stay hydrated, always! As an extra supplement, it is good to take vitamins daily too. This would help to prevent us from getting sick easily as it would help in building a good antibody and strong immune system, resisting infections.

I will end this section with an exceptionally familiar health-related quote for all of us; "an apple a day keeps the doctors away". Therefore, never forget your apples guys!

Second Entry: SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

Recently, a colleague of mine went on a boat trip at Sungai Klang. Throughout the ride, the boat sailer shared the current situation of what is it like in the area. The highlight of the sharing session was the fact that about 60% of the Sungai Klang river bed is full of solid wastes. Yes, the garbage that we, humans produce every day without fail. Even more surprising, this happened due to overflowing daily garbage that no longer fits in the landfills available in our country. From what we are aware, m ore and more raw materials are produced and being used yet very little to zero amount is recycled. As a result, there is an overload of undisposed rubbish not only on land but also in rivers. This will affect our surroundings and ultimately the Earth. Because of that, we decided to make that issue the main problem of our group project for a subject. We tried to come up with a solution as to how we could possibly help better the situation. Among the recommendations include improving recyc

First Entry: SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

Unemployment has always been a significant issue all over the world, including in our country, Malaysia.  It was most conspicuous during the pandemic, covid-19. From an economic point of view, there are 3 main types of unemployment. They are cyclical, structural and frictional unemployment. There are demonstrably different ways to cater to each type. SDG 8, which is Decent Work and Economic Growth talks about sustained and inclusive economic growth that can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living standards. One of the goals, 8.5 by 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value. Today, I would like to focus on job opportunities for fresh graduates. Being a student currently pursuing a degree, it occurs to me that it is important to be in the know of what career path is available to opt for. This is crucial to ensure job stability i
